In 1988 I was in Dubuque, Iowa just hours from the Minnesota state line. Eating breakfast and reading the box scores of pro baseball games played the day before, I had an epiphany. It became quite clear to me that I was to drive on to Chicago and Detroit to watch the Cubs, White Sox, and Tigers play baseball.

I have since thorough spirit guides influenced this decision. We all have spirit guides and they are with you from day one. Some of us have several. They are messengers, teachers, and healers. My spirit guides told me long ago I was a healer and would always be a healer.

If you keep an open heart and an open mind to your guides you will cultivate relationships with them that will last for all eternity. Don't be afraid to talk to them and more importantly, don't be afraid to ask them questions. They will hear you and respond you.

Spirit guides will never mislead you, as they only do what is right and good for you. They always have your back. They of course are the road map to your spiritual journey. In time, when you are ready, they can describe to you your spiritual calling.

On my way to Chicago I stopped in Galena, Illinois because it advertised itself as the boyhood home of our 18th president, Ulysses S. Grant. I toured his home and the town and found it spirited that a baseball movie about Shoeless Joe Jackson was being shot there.

Fast transmit from 1988 to 1991. I had just returned from a vacation to the east coast. One of the highlights of that trip was attending a Boston Red Sox game at Fenway Park.

They were playing the Oakland Athletics and I sat along the first base line a few rows up.

As I watched the movie "Field of Dreams" I came to the realization that it was the movie that was being shot in Galena, Illinois three years earlier. Galena was portrayed as Chisolm, Minnesota in the movie.

It was then and there that I realized my spirit guides had taken me exactly where I was supposed to go on both occasions, Galena in 1988 and Boston in 1991. What were reasons? What was the message? What was happening here?

In the movie Ray Cansela had issues with his dad. When he heard the voices in his cornfield said "Build it and he will come," he did. He constructed the baseball field and his dad came. The voice said, "Ease his pain." It appears he finished that as well by playing catch with his dad and by introducing his dad to his daughter-in-law and granddaughter.

I had issues with my dad. The message I received from the movie was that I needed to confront those issues. I needed answers to questions that haunted me in life and in my dreams. Over the next two years I took every occasion to talk to my dad.

I asked the questions that I needed answers for. I resolved my issues, thanks to that movie. When my dad passed away in 1994, my mom asked me to do his eulogy. Had I not resolved my issues, I would not have been able to fulfill that request.

Can I truthfully say this was a spiritual contact made potential by my spirit guides? I believe it was and spirit guides were instrumental in the nursing of my path and I continue to foster my destiny.

Intrinsic Motivation

If you're like many citizen in the world today, you have probably had moments in life when you felt no passion. Work seemed boring. Your life seemed to be an adventureless routine. Your doing lagged and your quality to innovate wilted.

One of the reasons citizen sometimes hit this wall is because they have been trying to live on the basis of extrinsic motivation rather than intrinsic motivation. Let me interpret the difference between the two.

Baseball

Extrinsic motivation is when something exterior of you--circumstances or people--determine your choices and action. Your boss might wish you to work late. To avoid being fired, you consequent his orders and do what's required even though you would rather go to the baseball game with your friends. an additional one form of extrinsic motivation might be the pursuit of money. You might work in an uninspiring job just because the wage is good.

Intrinsic motivation, by contrast, comes from your heart. It's a natural motivation that already exists in you. Think of something you're beyond doubt passionate about. Where did that passion come from? It's just there. It's natural to who you are.

In an imperfect world almost everybody has to do some things even if they lack the natural passion. Hey, we all have to clean our bathrooms and shovel snow. But the question with extrinsic motivation is that it ultimately drains our emotional batteries, which then leads to reduced performance.

I recently heard a speech by Daniel Pink, who spoke at a recent Ted Conference. Pink said that most economic models are based on the reliance that citizen will be motivated by money. This is often true, especially if citizen are given a very narrow task to complete. For example, if you put a bunch of parts on a table and tell citizen that the faster they can make a goods from those parts the more they will earn, the workers will regularly be motivated to get the job done as quick as possible.

But, he said, in situations that are very large and complex, paying citizen for speed and efficiency often reduces wide doing and productivity. That's because money is a form of extrinsic motivation.

Pink cited what's happening at Google to make his point. The company allows its employees to use 20 percent of their time to work on projects for which they have intrinsic motivation. In other words, they tell their employees to work on an idea that they themselves are passionate about. By tapping into the human need for intrinsic motivation, Google has produced many new products and applications. In fact, a majority of Google's products and services have been developed during that 20 percent window of time when citizen were free to work on what they were naturally passionate about.

This is not only true for Google. I've read many other studies that show how top performers in every profession are regularly citizen who were intrinsically motivated and passionate about their work. It's this natural passion that enables them to go out and have massive success!

So what's the moral of this story? It's easy. When you're setting goals and making decisions, make sure that you are intrinsically motivated. Then, when you run into barriers and obstacles that everybody encounters, you'll be able to power send and never look back.
