Roberto Alomar was without a doubt one of the best second basemen of his era, but was deserving to be inducted into the Hall of Fame?

Alomar excelled in all aspects of the game. Alomar won 10 gold gloves, had over 2,700 hits, 210 home runs, and 2,724 base hits. He played for the Toronto Blue Jays, the San Diego Padres, the Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians, and the New York Mets.

Baseball

Roberto Alomar was a team leader that led by example on the baseball field. Consistency, dedication, and plainly born talent. Alomar grew up in Salinas, Puerto Rico, and was the son of a Major League All Star (Sandy Alomar). By the time he was 22 years old, Alomar had not only realized his dream, but was already an All Star himself! Very early into his career, Alomar had already established himself as the top fielding second baseman in the league, and was one of the important hitters in baseball.

Roberto nothing else but began to enter his prime when he played for the Toronto Blue Jays, and what a variation a super star second baseman can make to a baseball team. Think the 1992 American League Championship Series. The Toronto Blue Jays led 2-1 in games but trailed 6-4 in the ninth inning of game 4. With a runner on third and a 2-2 count on Alomar, Oakland's ace reliever, Dennis Eckersley, threw a fastball down the middle of the plate. Alomar wasn't known at the time to be a power hitter, but he blasted the ball out of the pard and then threw up his hands in celebration. The Blue Jays won that contest and went on to oust the A's in six games. What was Alomar's numbers for the entire series? Five stolen bases, a.423 batting average, and two home runs. He nothing else but won the Mvp award and cemented his credit as the best second baseman in baseball.

Roberto Alomar is the most recent inductee into the Hall of Fame, and his numbers will nothing else but claim that he is one of the best second basemen in Major League Baseball history.
