Golf Tips - Say Goodbye to the Shank Shot

Many golfers, especially amateurs, believe that being able to consistently hit a ball in the same way is impossible. Of course, they don't mind the occasional slices, hooks, pushes, etc. But, no one wants to shoot a shank shot. At best this normally results in a shot that is not very good. At worst, your friends will make fun of you forever. No one likes this, so here are a few things that will help your swing.

In golf, "Shank" or "Shank Shot" is used to reveal a shot where the golfer hits the ball with the hosel of the club instead of the face. The hosel is the round part at the back of the face which connects it to the rest of the club.

So, how can a golfer avoid the dreaded shank shot? Well, it is not the worst thing in the world, and it is beyond doubt not difficult to avoid most of the time.

In my experience, the calculate that golfers hit the ball with the hosel is due to the perception that the club is an postponement of their arms. It is not. The ball is beyond doubt hit by a part of the club that is an inch or more away from the part of the club that extends the reach of the golfer's arms. In this way, golf is a limited bit less natural than baseball or tennis. Just to be clear, I believe that golf is still a much best game than either of those.

Here are three things you can try in order to avoid the shank shot:

Move a limited bit additional away from the ball (inches). Favor your own weight during your stoke to your toes rather than to your heels. This will cause your body to avoid automatically adjusting and captivating you closer to the ball. In your mind, couple on hitting the space an inch closer to you than where the ball is. In that way you will be more likely to hit the ball with the clubface than with the hosel.

Good luck and see you out there on the course!
